The founder principal of SVUCE, who started credit system in SVUCE passed away in the early hours of Saturday.

Prof. G.Rama Krishnan is fondly called as "Prof.G". B.Tech syllabus for Mechanical Engineering created by Prof.G, which was with extensive focus on Industrial Engineering, resulted in hiring of our B.Tech Alumni, just by looking at the course curriculum. Also, our alumni secured 9 out of top 10 All India Ranks in GATE, and most of them shored at prestigious National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Powai, Mumbai.

According to Prof. G.Rama Krishnan's wish, his family donated the corpse to Madras Medical College for research.

Have a look at his story in his own words:

I would like to give a brief about my career after completing my education in SVUCE as given below.

-          I had undegone training in Madurai at TVS Iyengar workshop for about 9 months as I was interested to start some workshop for automobiles.

-          After completion I joined APSRTC as a Mechanical Engineer and worked for about three years. I was under pressure from my family to resign and start my own enterprise as the salary earned by me was less than RS.1,000/- a month and also because I hailed from a business family. So I resigned and went to Chennai as we had our family businesses and also had one Finance company where they were lending monies for various businesses. I was requested to choose my enteprise of interest after studying various organizations. Even though I had opportunities of various possibilities I chose a packaging industry, as India was very much in a primitive stage of proper packaging in partnership of Tamilian and we made this company a profitable one in the first year itself even though that company was incurring losses earlier years. We have grown within five years with about five new companies of various packaging and trading companies, making profits has irked one of the partner who was an employee earlier made him a partner has created a dispute. After three years of dispute we have separated and we have started our own packaging industry with only family members and we have grown into group of companies.

We started our career with just Rs. 17 lakhs turnover in the first year and today we do a turnover of about Rs. 400 crores plus. Our main growth is through innovative product development of jumbo bags which is our niche market for bulk packaging with indigenous technology development which also earned us National and International awards from various packaging organizations of repute. This development was done during ninghteen nighties ( 1990 – 1994 ) and today there are about forty units manufacture this product and India’s third top export product of plastic industry sector which is around 8 Bn US $

I have been associated with industry associations and Chambers of commerce. At present I am holding the position of Chairman of Plastic Export Promotion Council which is an autonomous body of Union Ministry Commerce and Industry of Government of India. Officially I have retired from all business activities which are taken care of, by my brothers and children and I only work as an advisor.

As I was associated with the packaging industry and more so in plastic sector for larger portion of my life, I am associated with Indian Institute of Packaging which is set up Union Government about five decades back and I am a member of this institute for a over four decades and similarly I have joined Plastic Export Promotion Council after we developed Jumbo Bags out of plastic woven fabrics and floated a Medium Scale Industry and started manufacturing these bags for Exports and for domestic market. This organization is also an autonomous body of Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry which was established a little over five decades ago. I have been an active member of this organization also right from the beginning I have joined and now I have been elected  as Chairman for two years and I will be holding this post till end of the year 2015. There are about 2,200 member exporters of plastic products in this organization.

Yours truly,

G.Sudhakar
